How it's different

One model, not two

Most tools treat a document as either free-form pages (design tools) or one continuous flow of text (word processors) — never both. WriteA doesn't choose. A page is just a page, and your text is part of one ongoing story that can run through as many pages as it needs. Type past the bottom of a page and WriteA doesn't stop you or ask you to draw a new box — it just continues the same story onto a new page. There's no separate "flowing text mode" bolted onto a design canvas underneath. It's one model, doing both jobs.

Most creative work falls between the cracks of tools built for one job. Illustration apps can't set a paragraph. Layout apps treat drawing as an import. Word processors give up the moment you need real design. WriteA is built for the work that needs all three at once— flyers, zines, reports, comics, manuals, posters, and books.

One canvas, three disciplines

What WriteA does

Draw

Vector illustration

A full pen tool with real Bézier editing, shapes, custom pressure-style brushes, gradients, dashes, clipping masks, and convert-to-outlines. Everything you expect from a precision vector app.

Arrange

Page layout

Multi-page documents with sizes, margins, two-sided spreads, master pages, tables, guides with snapping, rulers, align and distribute, layers, and groups. Place anything anywhere, exactly.

Write

A real word processor

Not an afterthought. From a single headline to a whole book: rich paragraph styles, lists, indents, footnotes, and a body that paginates page to page. Click, type a paragraph, click, type the next — exactly like writing in Word. On Mac: endnotes, margin comments, and spell checking.

Highlights

Built for real documents

Start however you think

Open a template and edit its live preview, start a flowing text document, or begin with a blank design canvas. WriteA meets you at the kind of work you’re doing.

Write across pages, not boxes

Type and your words flow live across the page and onto new pages — the cursor follows the text, and fresh pages appear as the story grows. It reads and edits like one continuous document.

Edit Word docs as living text

Import a Word (.docx) file, a PDF, RTF, or images, and they become part of the page. A Word document becomes one continuous, re-flowing story — not frozen boxes. Keep writing and it re-paginates as you go. On Mac, import SVG as well.

Typography you control

Your fonts’ own pair kerning, honored on every line. On Mac, a built-in font editor lets you reshape glyphs, tune kerning, and embed the typeface in the document so it travels with the file.

Master pages & page numbers

Set headers, footers, and repeating elements once on a master and every page follows. Page numbers update themselves as the document grows.

Tables built in

Drop tables straight into your layout for schedules, specs, and data — no switching to another app to line up a grid.

Wrap text around art

Flow body copy around shapes, images, and illustrations with adjustable margins — magazine-quality layout without leaving the canvas.

Pull text out of an image

Grab the words from a screenshot or photo and drop them straight into your document — no retyping.

Distraction-free story mode

Switch to a continuous, full-document writing view — with light, dark, and colored themes, or a clean Word-like pages view — when you just want to write.

A full vector toolkit

Pen and Bézier curves, shapes, custom brushes, gradients, dashes, and convert-to-outlines — the precise drawing tools a design app needs, on the same page as your text.

Under the hood

Native, and seriously fast

GPU-accelerated canvas

The drawing engine renders directly on the GPU, so panning, zooming, and live text reflow stay smooth even in dense, multi-page documents.

One engine, every platform

A precise, well-tested Rust core does the heavy lifting — document model, text layout, rendering. The same engine runs on Linux, macOS, and Windows today.

Native, not a web app

A real compiled desktop app — no web wrapper, no heavy runtime. Free for Linux on both Intel and ARM, and available for macOS and Windows.

Your files, your machine

Documents live as files on your computer. No account required, no cloud lock-in — open, edit, and export on your own terms.

One app for the whole page.

Available now for macOS, Windows, and Linux.

macOS and Windows versions are the complete editor for free — every tool, and saving your work, included. A one-time in-app purchase adds exporting to PDF, Word, EPUB, SVG, Markdown, and plain text, plus printing. Linux is free.
